Today I’d like to introduce Pork and Shrimp Shumai Steamed in a Bamboo Steamer.
Shumai steamed in a bamboo steamer become wonderfully tender and juicy thanks to the gentle steam.
In this recipe, pork and shrimp are combined to create a filling rich in flavor.

Cooking with a bamboo steamer allows the dumplings to cook gently with steam, creating a soft texture and a delicious flavor that feels just like freshly made dim sum.
※I accidentally steamed them a little too long this time, so the lettuce placed underneath turned slightly dark from the heat, but they still turned out very delicious.※
This recipe uses simple ingredients, so it’s easy to make at home.
Now let me show you the ingredients and how to make them.
Ingredients (Serves 4)
Ground pork 300 g
Peeled shrimp 150 g
Onion 1/2
Potato starch 1 tablespoon
Shumai wrappers 30
Lettuce (or parchment paper for steaming) as needed <A>
Oyster sauce 2 teaspoons
Soy sauce 1 teaspoon
Sesame oil 1 teaspoon
Sugar 1 teaspoon
Sake 1 teaspoon
Grated ginger 1 teaspoon
Directions


1.Finely chop the onion. Devein the shrimp and mince them into a paste.
2.Combine all the ingredients in A and mix well.
3.Add the ground pork to a bowl, then add the onion and shrimp from step 1 and the seasoning mixture from step 2. Mix well until the mixture becomes sticky, then divide into equal portions and shape into small balls.




4.Cut the shumai wrappers into thin strips and gently press them onto the surface of each meatball so they stick around the outside.
5.Line a bamboo steamer with lettuce (or parchment paper), arrange the shumai on top, and steam for about 15 minutes over strongly boiling water.



※This time I accidentally steamed them a little too long and the lettuce underneath turned darker from the heat. If you use leafy vegetables to line the steamer, be careful not to steam them for too long.※
They have a simple, juicy flavor that is quite different from store-bought shumai.
