Today, I would like to share one of my favorite places in Tokyo.
Nestled in the charming neighborhood of Yanaka Ginza, Waguriya is a specialty shop dedicated to Japanese chestnuts.
During my recent visit, I enjoyed their signature waguri mont blanc paired with Japanese sake—a quiet and elegant experience that perfectly suited the atmosphere of the area.

Yanaka Ginza: A Charming Neighborhood to Explore
Yanaka Ginza is one of Tokyo’s old-fashioned shopping streets, loved for its relaxed atmosphere and unique local character.
Beyond the main street, small alleys reveal hidden cafés, specialty shops, and family-run businesses waiting to be discovered.
Finding a favorite spot here always feels a little like discovering a secret treasure.
A Favorite Stop in Yanaka Ginza: Waguriya
Among the many wonderful places in the neighborhood, Waguriya is one of my favorites.
The shop specializes in waguri, Japanese chestnuts known for their delicate flavor and natural sweetness.
Unlike many Western-style mont blancs, the desserts here are not overly rich or sweet. Instead, they allow the gentle flavor of the chestnuts to shine through.

An Elegant Pairing: Waguri Mont Blanc and Japanese Sake
During this visit, I chose the waguri mont blanc along with a Japanese sake pairing.
The subtle sweetness of the chestnuts and the clean finish of the sake complemented each other beautifully.
Rather than being a dramatic dessert experience, it felt calm, refined, and distinctly Japanese.
For anyone interested in experiencing the natural flavor of waguri, this pairing is worth trying.
A Small Treat to Take Home
Waguriya also offers take-home products.
This time, I brought home their chestnut kinton, a traditional sweet made primarily from chestnuts.
Its simple appearance reflects its flavor—gentle, elegant, and full of chestnut character.
It would make a lovely gift or a special treat for a quiet tea time at home.
